Our rabbi will help host our next New Moon Lab, Saturday evening, April 1st, 7:30 p.m. Rabbi Cattapan will teach us insights about the month of Nisan, we'll do havdalah together, go outside to say the blessing of the new moon, sing songs, and enjoy some moon pies afterward. Babysitting is always provided.

What is the New Moon Lab? There's an old tradition of the whole community coming together, going outside on a Saturday night early on in the new Jewish month, and saying the birkat halevana, the glorious blessing to greet the New Moon. As the moon reappears to face its Creator each month, so we can renew ourselves spiritually in greeting the Shechinah, the Divine Presence each month, by learning about and then taking part in this custom. At Beth Torah's "New Moon Lab," we study Talmudic texts, do havdalah together, learn all about the blessing over the new moon, sing, discuss the themes of the Hebrew month we are welcoming, pray, and enjoy Moon Pies afterward. Babysitting is provided; the program lasts approximately one hour.
