Adult Learning

At Congregation Beth Torah we approach adult education as part of the path of Lifelong Jewish Learning. From September to May we offer weekly Sunday morning and occasional Wednesday night courses when the Weiner Religious School is in session. There are also year-long courses on Shabbat morning, Thursday morning, and Wednesday afternoon.

Sundays in 2013

Toast a bagel, pour some coffee, meet new people and learn new things on Sunday mornings at Beth Torah!

Most classes are from 11:00 a.m.-noon in Room 105.

Effective Family Communication:

Effective family communication works in both directions, from parents to children—and children to parents. Join Betsy Low, LSCSW, to learn how to talk to your children so they will listen and how to listen to your children so they will talk. This session takes place Sunday, April 28th, from 11:00 a.m. to noon at Congregation Beth Torah in CR8.

This year’s Adult Education Committee worked admirably on planning and developing a variety of engaging study sessions. Many thanks to this year’s Adult Education Committee: Audrey Meyers, Debbie Bass, Elaine Tobias, David Zucker, Gary Shaw, Henri Goettel, Rabbi Linda Steigman, Nicholas LeVine and Todd Davisson

If you’re interested in serving on the Adult Education Committee as a member or as chair, or if you have suggestions for the committee, get in touch with Aaron in the Congregation Beth Torah office: aaron@beth-torah.org or (913) 498-2212.

Sunday Morning Shmooze and News

Every Sunday when religious school is in session breakfast begins at 9:00 a.m. At 9:30 a.m. we join in the beit tefillah (sanctuary) for Family Worship (a required part of Sunday school). Following tefillah (worship) the children go to class, we bring out the toasters, and lots of people stay in the ulam connected with free wi-fi, reading the Sunday New York Times, clipping coupons from the KC Star, and socializing. All members and friends are welcome!

Wisdom on Wednesdays - Every Wednesday, noon-1:30 p.m.

Join others in a study of sacred texts, guided by Beth Torah member and master teacher Henri Goettel. Topics range from Talmud to belief in God, all according to our rich heritage of scholars and holy writings. For more information, contact Henri at hgoettel@publicnetworking.org.
